Electrolytic manganese dioxide is the excellent depolarizing agent for battery, it has the characteristics of large discharge capacity, strong activity, small volume, long service life etc., So it has become the critical component of the battery cathode mix in today’s alkaline & lihtium ion batteries.
In the case of reducing agent, it is oxidizing. For example, manganese dioxide is heated to 1400K in the hydrogen stream to obtain manganese oxide; Brown and black manganese oxide was obtained by heating manganese dioxide in ammonia gas stream. Manganese dioxide is reacted with concentrated hydrochloric acid to produce manganese chloride, chlorine gas and water.
